On his Confederate pension application he claimed he enlisted as a Private in Gilbert’s Company and then scouted for Bell’s Brigade at Columbus, Mississippi on 1 Apr. 1864; later belonged to Beauford’s Brigade of Alabama Independent Scouts attached to N. B. Forrest’s Cavalry, received a gunshot wound in the left thigh at Brice’s Cross Roads, Mississippi, surrendered at Gainesville, Alabama 1 May 1865.
