The connection between the 4th Alabama Reserves and the 65th Alabama seem to be based on th fact that Col Underhill of the 4th Alabama Reserves received a parole as Colonel, 65th Alabama Regiment. A review shows that five of the twelve records for the 65th Alabama actually belong to men from other commands.

Four of the records are paroles dated Meridian MS, May 10, 1865. One is for Colonel Underhill. The other three are for Co "G", 65th Alabama Regt. One was signed by Capt Jacob F Holland, formerly 1st Lieut of the "Chunchula Guards", assigned to the 4th Alabama Reserves and later returned to the Mobile City Battalion. Edwin Baldwin, also paroled at Meridian, was another former member of the "Chunchula Guards".

The other man, Leroy L Bruer (or Brewer) , belonged to Co A, Mobile City Battalion. He was also paroled at Meridian as a member of Co G, 65th Alabama Regt, Meridian MS, May 10, 1865.

My theory is that there may have been an effort to reorganize the Mobile City Battalion into a regiment. It seems possible since there were two companies of the 1st Cadet Battalion at Mobile which could have been consolidated with the Mobile City Battalion. I don't believe this ever happened, but it could have been planned.

It's strange to have E M Underhill as Colonel of both the 4th Alabama Reserves and the 65th Alabama Regt. I cannot explain how that happened.
