William McElroy,Eugene McElroy's Great Grandfather, was born May 17, 1830 Bibb Co. Alabama.Wm. McIlroy Pvt. Co. B, 44 Alabama Regiment appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War belonging to the Army of Northern Virginia, who have been this day surrendered by General Robert E. Lee C.S.A., commanding said Army to Lieut. General U.S. Grant, commanding Armies of the United States.
Done at Appomattox Court House, Virginia April 9, 1865.number of roll-23, signed J.R.Coach.
William married Frances A. Nash 1866 Gwinnett Co. Ga.,William received Pension Gwinnett Co. Ga. 1909. He died Feb. 1912.He and his wife are buried in Yellow River Cemetery, Lilburn, Ga. unmarked graves.Gene and I would like any information about William & Co. B. 44 Al. Regt.
