Thanks Ken, Pvt. William McElroy who enlisted at age 19, 10 March 1861,Bibb Co. Alabama,was with Company B.44 Alabama Regt. until 9th. day of April 1865,He was at Appomattox Courthouse when his Regiment surrendered,as stated on his application for pension,Gwinnett Co. Ga. August 1909.papers signed by A.Q. Owens, A.B. Bracknell & Henry Owens, also signed by Justice of the Peace M. H. Deason,Dr. J. R. Abernathy, Dr. Arnold & Dr. T. K. Mitchell. Clarence McKinsey his son in law received funeral expenses Feb. 9, 1912 after William died Feb. 5, 1912.
We didn't know he was a cotton mill operator.
