Chris NelsonAlan: "Morehead's Rangers"Tue Feb 20 10:29:47 2001 Alan: Finally got ahold of "The Little Jeff"; something's still not clear to me. As you rightly surmised, Col. Morehead worked for the Conscription Bureau. But if Love raised Company A, why was it called "Morehead's Rangers"? (Morehead apparently kept the "Rangers" appelation from his earlier command, the "Kentucky Partisan Rangers.") I guess I'm not exactly clear on how the chain of command actually worked. Did Love and Morehead raise the unit together, or did Love raise it "under the direction of" Morehead? As a Conscription officer, what would Morehead have actually done? Would he have ever taken the field, or would he have continued in Pike Co. raising future companies?Conscript Bureau Alan J.
