Roger Brothersold mens regWed Feb 14 20:16:33 2001 Jim,I have always assumed (and this is nothing but an assumption) that “the old men’s regiment” was the 63rd (or at least a part of it) I know that the enlisted of the 62nd Alabama were 16 and 17 year olds (and some younger) (at least when they first formed as “Lockhart’s Battalion” in Jan 64. These two (62nd and 63rd)were brigaded together at Spanish Fort under Thomas. What regiment did the soldier that wrote the letteryou referred to belong to? What was the date of the letter? Have you ever seen the 63rd (previously designated 2nd Ala reserves) referred to as a “Junior Reserve”. Of course the 63rd was withdrawn along with the brigade to Blakely not Mobile, but this could have been an error (or another assumption). By the way the battle flag of the 63rd is in the archives. It has “2nd ALA REG” printed on it. John Wesley Pitts Letters Jim Martin, Wed Feb 14 22:35 old mens reg Roger Brothers, Thu Feb 15 06:52 Seventeen and under only.... Alan J.
