I don't show him as a transferee. I'm sure that your info is correct, but I'm guessing that he first enlisted with the 40th as a Private, transferred to the 38th, and then back to the 40th as Chaplain.I know that the Surgeons held the rank of Major, did the Chaplains hold a commissioned rank?Capt.
