One day I'd like to have a complete list of all staff officers assigned to Alabama units or stationed at a military post in this state. We're not there yet....

I'm almost certain there was another officer by that last name stationed in Alabama; I'll check on the specific instance you cited. I'm confident the 38th Ala. had only one AQM until that office was abolished in September 1864, but I'd like to know more about this man.
