A biographical sketch of this gentleman appears in Owen, DAB4:1141.As far as being Assistant Quartermaster of the 40th Alabama, my notes show the following for that regiment:Thomas Harden Lake. Appointed Captain and Assistant Quartermaster (A.Q.M.) October 16, 1862, to rank May 17, 1862, serving as such from [August 1,] 1862. Surrendered at Vicksburg, Mississippi, July 4, 1863; exchanged there on July 9, 1863. Relieved September 10, 1864; assigned to General A. P. Stewart as paymaster and engineer. [UA/49]When would McVoy have served as AQM? I've never known of a chaplain signing in this capacity. Have I overlooked a document in McVoy's service records? Capt. Alex.D.
