James:

The Thompsons had mentioned to me that they were interested in starting a website on the 17th AL after the publication of their book.

I would be very interested to find out about your ancestors that served in the 17th. My ancestor, John Rufus Eddins, was a private/corporal in the Company H. He had two younger half brothers; Francis Marion Eddins and William Riley Eddins. Francis was kia at Franklin and William survived the war. J.R. had three other brothers that I am also researching. I believe one of his older brothers was in the 6th AL calvary. His name was Abner William Eddins.
The family group lived in Pineapple AL.

J.R. was captured at the battle of Peachtree Creek (outside Atlanta). Canty's brigade led the charge and if they would have had some support from the right (Hardee) they probably would have driven the Yankees into the creek. After time at various POW camps J.R. rejoined the 17th and was at the surrender in North Carolina.

My ancestor moved to Stranger Texas in the 1880s (near Marlin) and is buried there.

The research continues..........

Kevin
