Vivian:

Thank you for your response.

Very interesting information. Can you describe the uniform in the picture that you mentioned. Was your ancestor a private or officer? I'm assuming that he was an enlisted man. You may have mentioned this but I can't remember what it said in your posting. Does the uniform have a slanted outside pocket? Are there any belt loops that look way too high to function as belt loops (ornamental).

Also what company were your ancestor's associated?

Finally, the Sons of Confederate Verterans have a marker program which is not affiliated with the U.S. government.
I have heard that they (U.S. gov.) have discontinued the
practice of marking rebel veterans graves. I'm not sure why probably the expense.

I am a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. I'm in the process of getting my ancestor's grave marked and will share the copies of the paperwork if you are interested. I'm not sure if you have to be a member of the SCV to get this done but it might be possible to go through the United Daughters of the Confederacy for the same marker.

I'll e-mail you at your address later when I have more time.
Like you I have quite a few belongings of my ancestor and I find the whole subject fascinating.

Kevin
