Thank you George. You are an amazing source of information. If anyone on this message board has information on a pension application submitted by John Washington Durvin, I would be very interested in hearing about it. I did find a 1902 Virginia Confederate Widow's Pension application for his widow, Mary Catherine Gunnell. However, I have some concerns about this document; first she spells her last name wrong (Dervin instead of Durvin), secondly she gets the year she was married wrong, and finally she 'signed' the application in late 1902 but I have some evidence that Mary Catherine Gunnell Durvin died in early 1902. In any event, she was granted a small pension but she never collected any of the money. I have the feeling that someone else filled out the application. This widow's pension application is very difficult to read and does not give a lot of information on the Confederate service of John Washington Durvin. It does say that he died in Hinton, Summers County, West Virginia in 1893. I cannot find any other documentation confirming this. I would still like any information on John Washington Durvin that might explain what happed to him after the last muster record dated Dec. 31, 1863 – Apr. 30, 1864.
