5th VA Battalion Co. I

I found a grave on find-a-grave for a Samuel Gilbert Bowman (1845-1924) buried in the Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Claudville, Patrick Co. VA. The gravestone appears to be a Confederate stone (the shape is correct) - there is a photo of the stone but it is very weathered and hard to read. The information on find-a-grave states that he was in Co. I, 5 VA Batt'n. I cannot find any record of Samuel Bowman in the 5th VA - by looking in the 'soldiers & sailors' site, 'footnote', and other sources. I can find Samuel Bowman listed in the 8th Batt. VA Reserves, 45th Reg., and 58th. Also found some Samuel Bowman names with middle initials of B, H, M, and W. Perhaps someone misread the Confederate organization that is on the gravestone? Does anyone have any information that might support the Confederate service of Samuel Gilbert Bowman?
