I understand from a cousin that John Cumby was captured twice by the union and the second time he was captured at Mine Run, Spottsylvania Co. Va. up from Chancellorsville Battlefield, where he was told that he would spend the rest of his days in prison if he didn't take up the oath of alliengence to the union, and go west to fight the Indians, where he was shot in the arm by one. Any info on him would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get this info and the "runner" story correct.
