1870 Federal Census lists him as "collector of Revenues".

If he enlisted in 1864, and was 47 years old, then his birth year would have been 1817, which is what the 1850 Federal Census listed, although the Virginia marriages say 1816 while the 1870 Federal Census says he was born abt 1820. Maybe someone(s) couldn't do the math back then or he himself wasn't too sure.
