In Response To: Co. G, 9th Virginia Cavalry ()

Nicholas Everett Edmunds was my great grandfather. He enlisted as a private in Company E of the 56th Virginia Infantry, on July 10, 1861. He was wounded in the head, on June 27, 1862, at the Battle of Gaines' Mill, part of the Seven Days' Battles, and hospitalized in Richmond. He was subsequently discharged from the infantry. In 1863, he joined Company B of the 32nd VA Cavalry Battalion, where he was promoted to 1st lieutenant. By late 1863, he was lieutenant of Company E of the 41st VA Cavalry Battalion, then captain of Company H and then captain of Company I. He moved to Co. G of the 9th VA Cavalry, and he surrendered at Appomattox Court House as commander of the 9th VA Cavalry. I've been to his grave sight at Cedar Knob Cemetery, in Bell Co. Texas, and I have a copy of his death certificate.
