The Virginia in the Civil War Message Board

"The CSA rectangle was predominately a late war issued item... The majority of these were made and issued out of the Atlanta Depot... to western theater troops. There was a slightly different "Virginia Pattern" version of the CSA Rectangle plate known to have been issued out of Richmond late war... However these are quite rare.... Majority of the existing reproductions are copies of the Atlanta Pattern version....

Most tend to portray the average confederate utilizing what was typically most common... usually not items that were exceedingly rare.... Also remember that in June 1864, the 26th had just arrived back in Virginia from SC just a few weeks prior... What they might have been issued out of the Charleston Depot previously as far as accoutrement gear was basically the same type of stuff that Richmond had available at the time.... All the ones that Ive recovered from Bermuda Hundred and Petersburg areas were of the types indicated above in the first paragraph.."

Tanks for your help!

I think I'll go with the "Virginia Pattern" version of the CSA Rectangle, the Iron roller buckle or what ever the SC deport might have gave the 26th before they left Charleston SC.

Again thank you for all of your help.
