The ones found were sets... as if some had peeled off their gear and dropped it on the ground in haste..... US box plate was found a short distance away.... and other assorted "skedaddle debris"....

Know the area very well... grew up a short distance from there.... Old Stage Road was more commonly known as "The River Road" at the time of the war... It at one time ran from south of what is now Rt.10... Northward all the way up to the fort at Drewrys Bluff.... Southern part of the previous road now known as Old Stage Road.... cut off as you get to the power plant property.... a short middle section further North now known as "Coach Rd"... cuts off again at Willis Rd... over the years the original roadbed still in use has been straightened and altered...

As a kid much of that area was still woods and farms.... majority of it is now developed and paved over... There was an old man in his 90's that had a small farm on Old Stage Road that allowed me to relic hunt on his farm when I was a teen... One of those guys that could tell you what he had for breakfast in 1910... He was living on what initially had been his fathers and grandfathers farm... He had half of a 13 inch mortar shell being used as a planter beside his porch at the time.... He as a curious kid was present when the veterans of Parkers Battery came and installed a monument to their position on the Howlett Line not far away... listened and retold the stories to me that he heard them talk about... was quite interesting...
