The Virginia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: The Confederate Battle Flag

I am a member here in Georgia. I check the Virginia board frequently because my family came from VA.
Another fact I failed to mention in my previous post, Slaves were in no better or worse shape than the women and children left at home. Living in Georgia, there are hundreds if not thousands of stories about homes, barns, & sheds being burned to the ground as the Yanks moved farther into the heart of the state. Also any livestock they could gather was herded off to feed the northern army. Fields were burned, any stored provisions that could not be taken was destroyed. So not only were defenseless women and children left to starve, but also any slaves that was left in the wake. How many slaves left the farm when they found themselves without food or shelter?? a very small percentage. Most stayed with the family and helped with the rebuilding, and doing such chores as hunting to provide food for not only themselves, but for the white family that had became their family. I do not care what is in books, or is the common belief now about slaves, and white families. If you want to know the truth, or if you need enough information to form your own opinion about the war, slavery, and "racism" get out and do some research. But do not stop until you have researched enough from all sides, to form an opinion that may or may not conform to others. I am not Politically Correct, never have been nor will I ever be. The truth is the truth no matter who it offends.
Anyone interested in my conversation with 2 black men last week, email me. It was very interesting and very refreshing. You will not believe what they had to say...... email me at taw87ga@gmail.com
