The Virginia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: The Confederate Battle Flag
In Response To: The Confederate Battle Flag ()

Sat. was Confederate Memorial Day in most southern states. Because it fell on a Saturday this year the State of Georgia is observing today as the holiday. Most of the state offices are closed today. ( can you believe that?) But my point is I flew my Confederate flag hanging from the front of my house in honor of the Confederate men and women that fought for what they believed in, not as a racist or a hate group, but for my, and all of your, Confederate ancestors. While out riding yesterday we saw several other flags being displayed for the same reason. I put it out Friday, and will take it down tomorrow, Or I might just leave it up for a while.
But as to your post, the Confederate Flag is part of my family, part of my heritage, and I will not take it down, or dishonor it by bowing to people that do not know the true facts!! I am not sure if Virginia observes Confederate Memorial Day or what day it is, But might I suggest that any one that reads these message boards, Fly Your Confederate flag, fly it proudly, fly it often or it will bow down to the very people that knows nothing about it's symbolism and what it means to descendants of men that marched off to war for something they believed in, and that was not the slavery issue.
We probably need to move this conversation to the News and Views Board. tom
