Re: Teamster horses and heavy cannon

A father in law was in the 112th.Texas Cavalry at Ft Clark just before WWII. They actually loaded up their horses and shipped all to New Caledonia in 42. Did not take them long to realize that horses and jungle do not mix. Then there was the 26th US Cavalry trapped in the Luzon when the Japanese invaded. One of the last cavalry charges occurred here. Of course all these horses were ate later on Bataan. The Polish cavalry actually charged tanks and automatic weapons with lances when the Germans and Russians invaded. And the German army was largely horse drawn till the end. Certainly horses have suffered terribly in all wars until fairly recently.

I sometimes think of my grandfathers that had to give up their pet horses when captured at Ft Donelson and Arkansas Post. I speculate it would have broken their hearts.
