William Beckmann, Private, Company F, 2nd Texas Infantry, enlisted September 5, 1861 at Galveston by Captain John Muller for the war, missing from the battle at Shiloh April 7, captured at Pitts. Landing April 7, 1862, admitted USA General Hospital, Louisville, Ky,, April 17, 1862, wounded in calf of leg, sent to Camp Chase Prison, Ohio G. H. April 25, sent to Vicksburg for exchange, exchanged August 25, 1862, attached to Texas General Hospital, Quitman, Miss. as Carpenter/Baker, June 18, 1863, received Certificate of Disability for Discharge, September 29, 1863 at Quitman, Miss., because of contraction of the tendon archiles [sp?] of the left leg, consequence upon gunshot wound received at the battle of Shiloh, he is unfit for field duty but able for duty in Hospital dept., recommend he be assigned to duty in this hospital, 20 year old Carpenter, born in Saxon Weimer in the State of Germany, 5’ 8”, fair complexion, grey eyes, dark hair, transferred to Comd. East Miss. River December 13, 1863,* served as Baker at Texas Hospital, Auburn, Ala. from December 31, 1863 to June 30, 1864, no further records
