Joseph Johnson

I need some help on finding out anything on Joseph Johnson. I can't order his CMSR, because I can't narrow this man down. He is a 3rd G. Grandfather. The only thing I can find on ancestry is a Tn marriage to Martha A. Green in 20 Jan 1857 in McMinn Co. The 1860 census for McMinn Co shows a Joseph Johnson 28, married to Martha E.E. Johnson 18, b. 1832 in Illinois, one child Benjamin F. Johnson age 2. The 1870 census for Meigs Co, lists a Martha Johnson, age 29, 2 son's Ben F. 12 and John S. age 7. No further sign of Joseph or one that I can pin down as mine. I believe he may have died during the War.
His son Benjamin is my 2nd G. Grandfather and he claimed on later census that his father was born in Tennessee, census have been wrong before, about being from Il.
Anyway the CWSS lists, 25 Joseph Johnsons from Tn with varying middle Intials, since I don't know his it's hard to pin him down.
Also several of these are duplicates, from unit's changing their names and unit numbers.
I believe he would have been in an E. Tn unit whether Union or Confederate.
Several matches are 39th Bradfords MTD Inf.
14th Cav Neelys
63rd, 74th Fains
1st Cav. Carter's
29th inf
Then there is a Joseph A.
3rd Mtd.inf Lillards
61st Mtd Inf Pitts
Also their was a Joseph C, in Welkers Bttn in Roane Co. family later lived there.
Also their were three Joseph's in the 2nd, 5th, 6th Tn Union inf and the 8th and 10th Union Cav.
I needs some help guy's, I have been trying to sort this man out for a couple years, and I don't have much hair left.
Any help would be so very appreciated
