Re: 61st TN, Co. G. (WS Norwood), Info?

Thanks Mr. Martin.

I know from census records that my ancestor was born in TN but lived in Attala Co. MS after the war. I am not sure about where he was in the years leading up the war, but I had thought that perhaps this soldier in the 61st was him, and the Vicksburg campaign was what lead him to MS somehow. I had some reason to believe that the soldier in the 61st was born in the same year that I believe my ancestor was born.

However, in the last few days I have learned that my ancestor was in the 4th Miss IN. I still find it interesting that two WS Norwood's, born in the same year, were serving in the same divisional command during the Vicksburg campaign.

Jim Huffman looked up the 4th Miss records, and he reports that William S was captured 3 times. I have ordered those records from this site.

I still wonder if there is some possibility, however remote, that these two are one and the same. It's probably just a combination of coincidence and the fact that William was a name commonly used by Norwoods.

Thanks again for your assistance. It is very much appreciated.
