I have a known relative (William S. Norwood) who was born in TN, but lived in MS (not far from Vicksburg) after the Civil War.

It may be stretch, but there could be a connection. Any information that one of you good folks could provide about the WS in Co. G. would be greatly appreciated.

Supposedly his general index card can be found at M231roll32. That's about the only lead I have.
