Someone posted this:
"I did locate John R. W. Lannom's service file with Co. "B", 11th Tennessee Cavalry. He was captured at Cathey Creek in northeast Tennesse, Dec. 22, 1863, and sent to Rock Island, an unpleasant place if there ever was one. In March 1865 he petitioned prison authorities to take the oath of allegiance, claimed to be against secession &c. That disqualifies him in the eyes of a pension board and others."
I have a statement from his widow's pension application that a GG Garrett swore JRW Lannom ".... was a soldier in the Confederate Army in the 45th Regt. Company E was captured at McMinnville, TN in Apr or Mar 1863 and was carried to Murfreesboro, Nashville, Louisville and then to Camp Chise and after 2 or 3 months was sent to Rock Island, IL..."
JRW Lannom was a Scout in a Confederate Cavalry, but how do I know which one? You offered to help if you could. If I don't get this straight the scholarship committee will throw this out. Would you prefer to e-mail me directly at: clannom@fuse.net or call me at (513) 683-3129? I contacted my local OH unit and no response as yet.
Thank you,
Carole Lanomm
