I think I have a problem with my ancestor because of the various spellings of his surname and listed in two different TN Confederate regiments.

I have him as:

John R. W. Lanom
11th Calvary, Regiment TN, B Co. - Private

Alternate name: John R. W. Lannon
Film # M231 roll 25

Then I have him as:

J. R. W. Lanum in the 21 (Carter's) TN Calvary
21st Regiment, TN Cavaley
Company A - Private

Alternate name: John R. W. Lannom
Fil # M231 roll 25

Can someone explain, please? Which is correct?
