Re: How to research my ancestor?

Alex

Thank you very much. I spend a lot of time researching obscure units. At present I am personally researching an artillery battery from East Tennessee in hopes to write a history of the unit, the Caswell Artillery, McClung's Battery, commanded by Capt. Hugh L.W. McClung. I think that writers and historians believe the only people fighting the Civil War were the men who served directly with Robert E. Lee or U.S. Grant. You will find in your research that the units from the backwater areas of the war performed yeoman servic and deserve to have their memory preserved just as well as those that made the history books.
