It would be a great travesty to do anything with the Forrest Park. Many 150 year old trees which are probably better protected by the City of Memphis then the General's Memorial. As I understand it, "The Heritage Pirates" have already removed the name Forrest from the park and are attempting to relocate the statue and dig up the General and his wife. There are indications that thugs have defaced the statue in the past.

This is interesting. In the nearby Elmwood Cemetery, the author Shelby Foote and his wife are buried next to General Forrest's Confederate brothers and son Willie. Also at Elmwood are Governor Isham Harris and General Gideon Pillow. Pillow's ggrandson has erected a large tombstone. On the back is a long explanation exonerating Pillow for the tragedy at Ft Donelson and blaming General Floyd for the failure to break out and ultimate decision to capitulate.
