" North of the Ohio River "

Have a question. When a Confederate in the western theater ( Army of Tennessee ) was captured, agreed to take the oath and remain " north of the Ohio river till the duration, " where did they go ? Were they expected to fend for themselves ? They would take the oath and agree to the terms to avoid prison, if given the chance. Were they housed somewhere, a step-up from a prison camp ? Maybe put to work as laborers ? Something I've wondered about for some time.

Question 2. On July 3, 1863, The Army of Tennessee was withdrawing from Cowan, TN. at the end of the Tullahoma Campaign. Would the 19th TN Infantry been involved in any rear-guard fighting ?
