Re: Krick's "Lee's Colonels" and grave sites

Hello.

The marker for Colonel McCreary has the following inscription:

“COL
C. Wickliffe McCreary
CO. A
1 S.C. INF
C.S.A.
BORN IN 1836
GRADUATED FROM
THE CITADEL 1857
KILLED AT
BATTLE OF
FIVE FORK
MARCH 31, 1865”

The GPS coordinates for this marker are
N 33° 23.478 W 81° 25.833, and yes, the name is Williston Cemetery.

Regrettably, I don’t know the burial location for Colonel Giles. When I visit Union, SC to find the other officers that are in this town, I will walk the cemeteries with an eye out for this officer.

Here are two more grave site locations:

Colonel Asbury Coward, 5th SC, is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery, York, South Carolina. Don’t forget to pay respects to his brother who is buried next to him. Sergeant Major Jesse James Coward, 5th SC, was mortally wounded during the war.

Colonel Leroy Mangum McAfee, 49th NC, is also buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in York, South Carolina.
