Re: identity of soldier who captured guns July 28,

In the OR's the battle reports for the date in question indicate that Dennison (2nd US Artillery Battery-A) only lost one rifled gun. This action occurred near New Market Road, East of Richmond... Confederate battle line was advancing upon them and they were ordered to retire... before the last gun could get out, both of its wheel horses were shot... The gun was unlimbered and efforts were made to drag it out by hand to little avail. Statements that the Confederates came out of the woods upon them from two sides... The gun at that time was abandoned... Attempts were made shortly thereafter to regain possession but the Confederates had made off with it by that time... efforts to follow were unsuccessful. They stated their opponent were troops of Kershaw's Brigade.

Confederate Roll of Honor.... There was an effort to provide medals upon those Confederates noted of deeds of heroic valor, equivalent to the Unions Medal of Honor... However not having means or funds to provide such awards... They still were given recognition for their feats and listed upon a recorded "Roll of Honor"...
