I am trying to find the name of a soldier in McGowan's brigade who captured 2 guns belonging to Dennison's battery at the battle of gravel hill, july 28, 1864.
I first ran across this man's identity in an oddball reference book in the Library of Congress. The book was supposedly about confederates who won medals for gallantry but I think the medal never existed. It was a device to tell several tales of heroisism during the war.
I don't remember the name of the book.
This soldier jumped on a horse on the limber chest of one of the guns.
