thanks Alan. I discovered in the pension papers that he served in SC Co. F of the 17th and later found him listed on a local paper in that company as well. Only after that did I find the NC record of a soldier the same name...which is a rare name to say the least in record-finding. I love a good hunt but this one finally got me! No where else to search...thanks again for sharing. I shall move on to another ancestor...
