Re: How Confederate Soldiers are forgotten veteran

David this woman in question has an interesting story. She actually lives in Wilkesboro, North Carolina today. However her father Moses Triplet had been a galvanized Yankee and had originally joined the 53rd North Carolina State Troops in 1862 but was transferred to the 26th North Carolina State Troops and had deserted on June 26, 1863 at a hospital in Danville, Virginia. He then joined the 3rd North Carolina Mounted Infantry (US) and this unit had some of the more hideous atrocities against Confederates that I've encountered.

I'd just as soon forget about this former Confederate as I'm sure some of you would. Turning sides is one issue but murdering innocent people as this unit was accused of doing is another issue for me personally.

From what research I did on him years ago he was a mean and nasty man. According to some eyewitness accounts he would sometimes ride into town with a live rattlesnake around his neck. He married a mentally disturbed woman who was about 19 years old when he was in the last years of his life. I think they were married about 1930 and their union produced the woman in question.
