Benjamin West, Private, Lt. Landon N. Davie’s Company A, 21st Regiment Virginia Militia, receipted for pay for service rendered as State Troops for July 29 to October 1, 1861, not dated, enlisted October 19, 1861 at Turtle Neck, detailed to vessel on York River, Q. M. Department at Yorktown, November 7, 1861, no further records

The 21st Regiment Virginia Militia was called into service by proclamation of the Governor of Virginia, dated July 13,1861, and was mustered into service October 19, 1861, by Colonel Crump. It was disbanded May 15 1862, by order of Maj. Gen. Hill, and the men distributed among the other regiments.
