Glad I discovered this fine site! This Albert Sidney Johnston burial(s) blog has become "a work in progress". Going through my notes this AM, I re-discovered this letter, the original resides in Tulane University among the fabulous ASJ/WPJ Papers. This note mailed to Marietta GA reads in part: "Corinth, Friday April 11th, 1862 Dear Ma Just from the field...I just missed Will (William Preston Johnston, ASJ's son) who left here yesterday morning for NEW ORLEANS, I think in charge of HIS FATHER'S BODY. I presume you have heard through Will the sad news of his (ASJ's) death which took place...in the first days fight?" Signed "Lamb" I, at this time, know not who the writer is, but certainly a Johnston family member or confident? It seems that WPJ then on sick leave from the army, did infact accompany the entourage and burial party to New Orleans, but this is mentioned nowhere else? With help I can post a copy of the original letter; HELP? BF
