Re: Supplying Hood in late 1864

There are several references to Wintters activities in the Official Records, volumes 39 and 45 (part 2). Since writing that piece I have come to the belief that the torpedoes were used in the Tennessee River during Hood's crossing following the Battle of Nashville. VYol. 45, part 2, page 718: "A large quantity of torpedo stores has been shipped to major Wintter at Corinth, Miss. In the workshops at this point machinists have been engaged in putting up machinery, carpenters in framing magazines, making pontoons, &c., and blacksmiths in making and repairing tools, carts, and other engineering materials." This is from a letter sent by Col. Samuel Lockett the Chief Engineer of the department as well as the man who supervised the Confederate fortifications around Corinth back in the spring of 1862 when he was just a captain.
