As you noted, the 1850 federal census indicates his age to be 35 and his place of birth to be Sourh Carolina. An interesting discrepancy versus the 1850 federal census is that the 1860 federal census lists his age and place of birth at 43 and North Carolina, respectively. This implies his year of birth as about 1817. It is the same Richard H Dozier, as he is indicated to be a physician and the wife and children of the prior census are the same persons. 1817 year of birth also corroborates his U of P medical school records. I believe it is possible that the wife answered the 1850 census incorrectly, and that the 1860 data is correct. What becomes even more interesting is that there is a Richard H Dozier born in 1817 in Nash Co., North Carolina that served with a NC Regiment. One detailed family tree on Ancestry.com shows the two men as brothers. Also of interest, I found an entry of Anne Dozier's death in the St. Louis morgue dated 8/1867.
