Thanks for that extensive list of information.

One minor addition. He was enrolled in the 8th Mississippi Infantry by mistake on the same day that his son John was enrolled. His military records confirm that he was enrolled by mistake.

I think it is most likely that he was caring for soldiers at the temporary hospital in Enterprise, MS in November 1861 and died in December 1861. That fits with the epidemics found in such places and the lack of fighting in that area at that time. It also matches the reference in the Richmond Dispatch. Why his death was reported in Richmond I have no clue. I suppose he could have died there, but he wasnt in he military and he was in Enterprise in late November 1861.
