Re: Co E, 1st Mississippi Reserves-R.C. Presley

Thank you for your recent response. Certainly, the R.C. Presley who enlisted in Capt. Hall's Cav. Co. could have been my great-grandfather, but I don't have sufficient info to prove or disprove it.

Just to be sure I didn't miss something, I have again reviewed Rausel's pension application records that Mississippi Department of Archives and History has placed online. He consistently stated that he enlisted in the 39th Miss. Inf., Co. I and that he did not enlist a second time in Confederate service. There is no mention of any other unit.

Now pension application questions that I barely noticed before seem to jump off the page - such as, enlisting a second time in Confederate service, being absent without leave from one command to join another. Using the assumption that the soldier in Capt. Hall's Co. and my Rausel are the same man, would you be willing to offer an opinion about what could have occurred between enlistment in Hall's Co. and enlistment in the 39th Miss. Inf.?
