Re: Co E, 1st Mississippi Reserves-R.C. Presley

Captain Hall enlisted April 23, 1864 at Carthage. I would assume that would be also the date of his companies formation.

R. C. Presley, age 17, Private, Captain A. A. Hall’s Cavalry Company State Reserves, Supporting Force 5th Congressional District,* enlisted April 23, 1864 at Carthage by Capt. R. G. Prewett for the war, recorded absent, sick at the July 17, 1864 muster, no further records

Note, this is the only Company E muster roll found in the records. Ooooops!, correction, this is the only muster roll found in the records for Capt. Hall’s Cav. Co. There are none for Co. E, 1st Cav. Res.

* This company subsequently became Company E, 1s Regiment Mississippi Cavalry Reserves

The 1st Regiment Mississippi Cavalry Reserves was formed about September 3, 1864, by the addition of three companies to the seven companies constituting the 1st Battalion Mississippi Cavalry Reserves
