Correction - there were two earlier returns for Dec. 1861 and Jan. 1862, filed out of order. The Jan. return provided no information, while the Dec. return, from Fernandina, FL, dated Jan. 10, says: "Owing to such an uncollected condition of my regiment on account of sickness and at said time having to obey marching orders compelling me to scatter my troops so that it is utterly impossible for me to make a correct return of everything that is required for last month."
This really doesn't change my earlier opinion.
