Re: 7th Mississippi Company I Covington Sharpshoot

Michelle, While reading this thread I found the name W. W. Self so familiar, but it took me a while to place it. Then I remembered where I had read it. In 2010, my home church, Ebenezer Baptist, in Wiggins, MS, held what it thought was its 125th Anniversary, based on the earliest records we had (1885). A timeline of major events was presented to everyone with the earliest record from Aug. 11th of that year, and guess who was listed as the first Church Clerk? It was none other than W.W. Self. Within a year and a half he was no longer in that position and there was no mention of him in the brief historical sketch we were given. He could have been in this position before 1885, because in the past few years we know the church existed as far back as 1880 and before that was part of another church farther east on Black Creek. I would like to find out more about him in the pre- and post-war years if you know. Since it's not strictly CW-related, you may respond to my e-mail address. pattoncarter@aol.com
