George T. Laws is not recorded on the records of the 3rd Mississippi Cavalry. As there are no surviving muster rolls for the regiment, we can understatnd why we see no record of his service in that unit.

His recollection of the officers is correct however, which confirms his service in the regiment.

Here is what I found on the officer's mentioned, very little information.

John McGuirk, Colonel, F & S, 3rd Mississippi Cavalry, appointed June 9, 1863 at Panolo, Miss., present at Tupelo, Miss., May 3, 1864

M. L. Farris, Captain, Company B, 3rd Mississippi Cavalry

Thomas E. Hogg, 1st Lieutenant, Company B, 3rd Mississippi Cavalry

W. M. Swindle, 2nd Lieutenant, Company B, 3rd Mississippi Cavalry

All recorded on a June 15, 1863 roster, no other records

The 3rd Regiment Mississippi Cavalry was organized June 9, 1863 as the 3rd (also known as McQuirk's) Regiment Mississippi State Cavalry.
