My family has the original photograph. If you look closely, he has a revolver on his right hip carried butt forward. It's partially obscured by his sword. His buttons and belt plate have single stars on them, a style worn by Mississippi regiments. The left shoulder on his blouse has been patched, but other than that, he's pretty well turned out for a Confederate soldier in the Army of the Tennessee late in the war. He has an officer's sword, revolver, uniform with matching regulation buttons and belt plate.
