Thanks for the link. According to Mike Beiser, a reenactor based near Jackson, MS, J.T.'s uniform indicates he was probably a lieutenant when this picture was taken. According to his official records, this would have occurred after the battle at Allatoona Pass in Oct. 1864. It stands to reason he probably got this picture taken near Florence AL in late 1864 when the Army of Tennessee spent 3 weeks trying to round up supplies for the ill-fated Nashville campaign. It would also explain the haunted look in his eyes having seen quite a bit of action in the Vicksburg and Atlanta campaigns. He had yet to face Franklin, Nashville and a 6 month stint at Johnson's Island prison. J.T. is my ancestor; the first child he had when he returned from the war was my great-grandfather.
