We all, Mitch Sanders, Virgil and Jamie Roberts, Ron and I appreciate your kind words. We have put some time and effort into the research that has gone into the website and Jamie has done an outstanding job as webmaster.
Jamie told me he would be adding those photos to the website as soon as he returned from his vacation. Not sure how long he will be gone though.
The 6th Mississippi was originally formed as the 7th. I read someplace that because so many of the men who joined were sons of war of 1812 vets, and they wanted to be designated the 7th, the old 7th was changed to the 6th.
These pants were supposed to have belonged to Enoch Pittman. According to Wayne Cosby of Camp Moore, theses pants were donated by a Pittman descendant to Camp Moore. According to this descendant Enoch was on the way home after the war and died near Camp Moore. That is not true, Enoch Pittman died at Oxford in 1862 per his CSR and Richard Pittman letter.
That being the case, I wonder, whose pants are these really, what unit, and what Pittman "wore" them home? If memory serves me right, only 3 of the 6 brothers came home, Jesse, John and Stephen. With Stephen being diabled at Atlanta, Jesse captured at Nashville and a POW until the end, and as close as family reserachers can tell, John was in the 3rd Mississippi, I fail to see how these can be 7th Mississippi pants being to any Pittman.
Just my POV.
