I and ...(many of 7th Mississippi descendants)... greatly appreciate all of the work that ya'll have done !
I'm looking forward to Ron Skellie's book.
Any updates on uploading photos of those red trimmed pants at Camp Moore
to the 7th website ?
Since the 7th was one of the original Mississippi Regiments formed, I've always thought that many of their local companies tried their best to conform to the ever changing "official" regulations of The Army of Mississippi during the first months during & prior to the War . (Basically Grey trimmed in Red ). Excepting the more elaborate pre-War "social" militias.
David Upton's original post on this subject was great. As branch of service colors had been for the most part standardized by all nations across the globe by 1861 : Blue trim- Infantry, Red Trim- Artillery, Yellow- Calv. ect.
I've often wondered if our choices of colors were another example of Mississippi's attempts to even be more independent. Excuse me, I guess I'm just "thinking out loud " . I bet allot of those pretty local uniforms were traded in for the more comfortable old farm/work clothes during that initial march from Corinth to Shiloh, and while in camp along our Gulf Coast.
