Re: Retrieval and Reburial of Franklin dead at Spl

Jim: This is the first that I have heard of any Mississippi Soldiers being removed from the Battlefield of Franklin, Tennessee in mass. After researching the Franklin Dead for the past 25 years I can confirm that there were some who were taken home by family and friends or who died of their wounds elsewhere and are not buried in the McGavock Confederate Cemetery. These total (43) at present research.

If you can come up with any additional information on this move, especially a time frame I may be able to help. At present the Mississippi Section in Franklin contains 424 Marked Graves (many marked as Unknowns) and I have identified (104) at present who were not listed.

Where is Splurge, Miss?
